Nissan looks to the future at 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show

Nissan exhibitions at the 2013 Johannesburg International Motor Show (JIMS) are showcasing the brand’s current and future model offerings, in a celebration of the Nissan ethos, ‘Innovation that Excites’.

Says Mike Whitfield, Managing Director of Nissan South Africa: “Our presence at this year’s JIMS is substantial, with no less than nine vehicles on display in Hall 6 and seven at the 4x4 track, along with another four which are actually off-roading on the 4x4 track. We also have a small fleet of Nissan LEAF shuttle vehicles doing duty in the show grounds. From the RESONANCE Concept vehicle to the new Nissan NV350 Panel Van, the forthcoming Nissan JUKE NISMO to the superb Nissan GT-R – everything we stand for is on display at Nasrec.

“Nissan South Africa recently began a new product onslaught, with the new Nissan ALMERA and SENTRA models joining the South African market in September ahead of a host of other new products. These will include the new Nissan X-TRAIL and forthcoming Nissan QASHQAI, which will make their local debut in 2014, and the new Nissan LEAF which went on sale at the beginning of October as the first-ever 100% Electric Vehicle (EV) available to the South African public.

“On the back of steadily-growing sales volumes in 2013, despite certain industry-wide set-backs, Nissan in South Africa is on the up in every respect. Our increasing model portfolio is of course opening a host of new doors for the brand in many ways.”

Addressing the world’s media, Nissan Motor Company President and CEO, Carlos Ghosn, stated that the Nissan Power 88 mid-term plan was the start of the most intensive product offensive in the company’s illustrious history.

“Whether it is clean mobility for progressive cities or our pioneering pledge to bring autonomous vehicles to market by 2020, our company is powering ahead like no other time in our 80 year history. You can continue to expect the best from Nissan.”

Nissan LEAF

With the new Nissan LEAF joins the passenger vehicle line-up in South Africa as the very first 100%, zero emission EV to be sold in the country. The Innovative introduction of EV technology in South Africa, Nissan’s product portfolio now increases once more, ahead of new vehicle launches in 2014 which include the release of the all-new X-TRAIL and the forthcoming new Nissan QASHQAI, which is due to be revealed globally in London on the 7th of November 2013.

Continues Whitfield: “The ever-increasing product portfolio at Nissan South Africa is a reflection of our commitment to the South African automotive industry as well as our dedication to attending to the public’s motoring needs. We have a large variety of models on offer, from the tough-as-nails Nissan PATROL to the hard-working and extremely popular Nissan NP200, and everything in between follows our ‘Innovation that Excites’ promise.

“It is with products like the new Nissan LEAF where we push the boundaries even further, allowing South Africans to take the next giant leap forward in passenger mobility with us, and at the same time incorporating intrinsic Nissan brand values in everything we do. Nissan LEAF embodies our innovative thinking and links to other Nissan ideas which include Pure Drive, Around View Monitor, Nissan Connect and the NISMO ZEOD RC.
